A night of fabulous musicianship, great lyrics, beautiful harmonies, a fair bit of laughter and maybe even a few tears. What more can you ask for? Well, possibly that they get back to the recording studio. That second album is just waiting to get done – InvernessGigs, 29th April 2017
All-female Inverness four-piece Dorec-a-belle have been gigging across Scotland for three years in the lead up to the release of their debut album, Listen. The title lives up to the demand – this is a thoroughly enjoyable and superbly crafted collection of songs, equally strong on musicianship and writing. Simple but beautiful melodies are elevated by the exquisite harmonies and unusual combination of guitar, cello, accordion and saxophone. The genesis is Scottish folk but it veers off in different directions, finding inspiration in blues, country and South Eastern European folk, such as the mesmerising ‘Taken’, a gentle, mournful ballad that is reminiscent of The Be Good Tanyas at their most soulful – The List, February 2015
A second album would be very welcome indeed – Alan Morrison, The Sunday Herald, October 2014
Performing for the first time in Glasgow’s Hug And Pint, Dorec-a-belle bring their potent combination of gorgeous harmonies, catchy songs and unique instrumentation to this well-known venue.
Having earned a name for themselves as a talented line-up of accomplished musicians and song-writers, this Inverness band’s rich, textured sound comprises lush, three-part harmony vocals over guitar, sax, accordion and piano.
Winners of the Sunday Herald’s Best Unsigned Band Competition 2013, in 2017 Dorec-a-belle returned to Eden Court Theatre, Belladrum Festival and Edinburgh Fringe, and recently debuted on BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends with Clive Anderson.
Expect an evening of music brimming with passion, emotion and energy: from delicate to danceable, it’s always stunningly beautiful.
